Castle Cliff Lookout is a lesser-known but rewarding roadside viewpoint located along the Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) between Banff and Lake Louise. This pullout offers a dramatic view of the towering cliffs of Castle Mountain.
The mountain’s layered sedimentary rock formations resemble the turrets of a medieval castle—hence the name. The viewpoint provides a fantastic photo opportunity, especially in the early morning or golden hour. There’s no hike required—just a quick stop with easy access from the road—making it a perfect pause on your way to or from Johnston Canyon or other Bow Valley highlights. Interpretive signage at the site shares insights into the mountain’s geology and history.
