Castle Campbell, located in Dollar, Scotland, was the lowland seat of the earls and dukes of Argyll from the 15th to the 19th century. Originally known as Castle Gloom, it was renamed Castle Campbell in 1490 by King James IV.

The castle saw visits from historical figures like Mary, Queen of Scots, who found it reminiscent of home. Despite facing destruction during religious conflicts in the 17th century, the castle remains a well-preserved medieval site managed by Historic Scotland and is open at certain times of year to explore.

The walk up to the castle, however, through dollar glen is a real treat and not to missed regardless of whether the castle is open or not. A circular loop taking you to the front of the castle is a great way to spend 2-3 hours before stopping in the town of Dollar for food or coffee.
