Kai Whakapai is the locals fav spot to go to for a drink or a feed - it is allllways busy here, so it is such a lovely vibe. There's often live music out the front too. It's also a great spot to get some laptop work done - the upstairs is lovely and cosy; plugs and local wifi to use and banging coffee. Their chorizo scramble is my current go to - it's so tasty!
