From 1493 – 1552 a monastery operated in Skriðuklaustur. From 2002 to 2012 an extensive archaeological excavation took place on the cloister ruins which you can now see for yourself. I found this place very interesting, there is a museum in the house and a restaurant with a very nice buffet.
