Highlights

This iconic trail takes hikers deep into Madeira's lush Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It features two main attractions: the enchanting 25 Fontes Lagoon, fed by cascading streams, and the the cascading Risco Waterfall, a towering spectacle of water plunging into the forest. The trail is a feast for the senses, with rich greenery, birdsong, and cool mist from the waterfalls.

Getting There
By Car: The trailhead is accessible via the Rabaçal parking lot, but spaces fill up quickly,

especially in peak season.

Tips for Visiting
This hike is incredibly popular, particularly in high season. Expect heavy foot traffic, especially at 25 Fontes, where the narrow paths can get crowded. To avoid crowds, start early or consider visiting during the off-season.
If you’d prefer a quieter alternative, the Levada do Alecrim & Lagoa do Vento & Risco Waterfall (PR6.2 + PR6.3 + PR6.1) offers a less crowded yet equally stunning experience. This route also begins at Rabaçal and includes unique highlights like Lagoa do Vento, a secluded waterfall spilling into a picturesque lagoon.
