The William Wallace Statue, also known as "Freedom," is a controversial sculpture inspired by the film Braveheart. Created by Tom Church in 1996, the statue features the face of Mel Gibson, who portrayed Wallace in the movie. Initially placed in a Stirling Council car park, the statue faced criticism and vandalism before being removed in 2008. Despite attempts to sell it, the statue remained with Church and was eventually moved to his garden, where it became part of a castle replica. In 2021, the statue found a new home at Glebe Park stadium in Brechin.
