The cable car leading to Fajã da Quebrada Nova is truly one of a kind! Known as Teleférico das Achadas da Cruz, it boasts a 98% slope, making it the steepest cable car in Europe. This unique ride connects Achadas da Cruz to the peaceful Fajã da Quebrada Nova, offering panoramic views of an unparalleled coastal landscape. Fajã da Quebrada Nova is a secluded fishing and farming village nestled between the ocean and an impressive 500-meter-high cliff. You can reach this charming village either by the cable car or on foot, hiking the steep Vereda do Calhau trail.
The cable car ride itself is a breathtaking experience. Once in the village, you can stroll along the promenade and take in the stunning views of the ocean on one side and the rocky cliffs on the other. Locals still come here to cultivate this small but fertile piece of land. Next to the upper cable car station, there is a small snack bar where you can relax and enjoy refreshments.
