Coromandel Peak offers one of the clearest, most uninterrupted views of Lake Wānaka and the surrounding mountains. Unlike Roy’s Peak, where the view is partially blocked by Coromandel itself, this summit provides a full panorama. The hike starts on the same track as Roy’s Peak, so you follow the familiar trail at first. After a while you leave the main track and head straight up a steep ridge through tussock and faint sheep trails. The off-track section is tough and very steep, but the view from the top is worth it because the lake is fully visible without Coromandel blocking it like on Roy’s Peak. The summit is perfect for photos, especially in the morning or late afternoon when the light is soft and golden. The peak is on private land, so it is important to get permission to hike there. Some people also reach it by helicopter for special occasions, like proposals, which gives an amazing perspective of the lake and surrounding mountains.
