Kura Tawhiti (Castle Hill Conservation Area) is a popular destination for climbers, families, students, and scientists alike. This grand limestone rock battlements area is located within the Canterbury region of New Zealand. Visitors can explore the natural, cultural, historic, and recreation values that Kura Tawhiti has to offer. The area was once under a large shallow inland sea bringing compelling geological formations such as tuffs and dramatic landforms like the ones that dominate the Waimakariri Basin. Plant life here is a hidden treasure with very rare protected species, as well as lush native forests. Not only is there plenty of plant life to explore, but wildlife is also plentiful in this captivating landscape. The Ngāi Tahu tribe have an ancestral connection to Kura Tawhiti and their history is surrounded by this magical place, making it a standout location to explore!
