Everything you need to know to visit Moraine Lake
Moraine Lake in Banff National Park is a stunning turquoise lake nestled in the Canadian Rockies and is probably the most photographed lake in Canada.
The road to Moraine Lake is only open from June to Early October!
Moraine Lake is only Accessible by shuttle or commercial transportation, you can't drive here!!! Let me explain your options!
The shuttles book out quickly and they all leave from Lake Louise Village. You can book on the Parks Canada site in April/May depending when they release the tickets or you can book a private companies shuttle. There are also several tours that bring you to Moraine Lake and other spots. You used to be able to drive here in the past, but it just got too busy.
The Parks Canada shuttles are substantially cheaper than a private company. In mid April, they release 40% of shuttle tickets for the entire season. The remaining 60% of tickets are released at 8 am MST 2 days before departure. Weekends and the sunrise times sell out early, so booking in advance is highly recommended. Here is the Parks Canada Website to book: https://reservation.pc.gc.ca/
Parks Canada shuttle is only $10
Private shuttles range from $100-$150
Tours range from $150-$400
Catching a shuttle service to Moraine Lake is a great option whether you are one person or travelling with a large group. These shuttles can be booked in advance and will pick you up and drop you off at Moraine Lake.
Catch a ride with Fairview Limousine, Moraine Lake Bus Company, Mountain Park Transportation, or Ten Peaks Shuttle & Tours.
You can also book a gondola and shuttle package with the Lake Louise Ski Resort & Summer Gondola. You can catch a ride to Moraine Lake and then after go up the Lake Louise Gondola.
You can bike the 14km road to Moraine Lake for free! This is obviously too long of a walk, but if you really want to grab your bike and go for it! This could be a great option with an E Mountain bike.
I highly recommend doing the sunrise tour, as it is really beautiful lighting. Everyone stands on the rock bluffs but you can find some spots to yourself. Make sure to bring a headlamp! We brought a little jetboil to make coffee and it was so nice. After sunrise, you can walk the lake trail, or you can rent a canoe on the lake. Rentals are $100 plus, but hey it is really beautiful!
