1. Infos about South Korea
South Korea is an East Asian country known for its culture, exceptionally delicious food, and technology-driven economy. It is located on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula and is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population of over 51 million people. Of these, approximately 50% live in and around the capital city of Seoul. The country is also known for K-pop music and Korean dramas, which have gained popularity worldwide in recent years.
2. Language
The country's official language is Korean. Regional dialects and variations of Korean exist across the country. In bigger cities like Seoul or Busan you won't have problems finding english signs and service points. Be prepared by downloading Papago or Deepl for translation and if you're interested in the language start learning the alphabet - it's easier than you might think but it can help a lot when traveling.
3. Visa
Whether or not you need a visa to enter Korea depends on your nationality and the length or purpose of your visit. Citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and most European Union countries can enter with the K-ETA (an electronic travel authorization system) for usually up to 90 days. Please check the official websites of your countries embassy in South Korea for reliable information.
4. Currency
The official currency of South Korea is the Korean Won. it is abbreviated as "₩" or "KRW" in international context. I recommend to exchange some money at the airport after arrival, even though you most likely wont need much.
5. Airports
There are two major airports around Seoul: Incheon and Gimpo. Foreigners usually land in Incheon International Airport and Gimpo is for national flights for example to Jeju Island or Busan.
6. Hotels
The best place to stay in Seoul depends on your personal preferences and travel goals, but popular neighborhoods include Myeongdong, Jongno-gu & Insadong for sightseeing, Gangnam-gu for Luxury and Shopping, Hongdae and Itaewon for nightlife.
