Northern Kyushu is a year-round destination, but each season offers a different experience.
đž Spring (MarchâMay): Mild temperatures and cherry blossoms make this one of the most popular times to visit. Parks, riversides, and castle grounds across Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Kokura come alive with sakura blooms.
âïž Summer (JuneâAugust): Expect hot, humid weather with a rainy season from early June to mid-July. August brings lively festivals and fireworks, but be prepared for higher temperatures and occasional typhoons.
đ Autumn (SeptemberâNovember): Comfortable temperatures and colorful foliage make autumn an excellent time to visit. Scenic spots around Yufuin, Mount Aso, and the Kuju Highlands are especially beautiful.
âïž Winter (DecemberâFebruary): Winters are generally mild compared to northern Japan. It's the perfect season to enjoy Beppu's famous hot springs, seasonal illuminations, and fewer crowds.
Travel Tip: For the best balance of pleasant weather and manageable crowds, plan your trip for late March to early May or mid-October through November. Avoid traveling during Japan's major holiday periods, including Golden Week (late April to early May), Obon (mid-August), and the New Year holidays, when accommodations and transportation book up quickly.
