Iceland

Venture Seeker Approved means adventure, authenticity, and the kind of memories we'd relive again in a heartbeat. These are the moments that made us stop, look around, and say "this is why we travel." From descending inside a volcano to paragliding above the black sand beaches, these are our top picks for once-in-a-lifetime adventures across Iceland.

Getting Around Iceland

The best way to experience these adventures is by rental car. While you can absolutely book group tours or bus excursions to reach many of these spots, having your own vehicle gives you the freedom to stop, explore, and really take your time- which is what Iceland is all about.

We recommend renting through Blue Car Rental - one of the most trusted companies in Iceland. Their vehicles are reliable, easy to pick up right from the airport, and perfect for Iceland's ever-changing roads and weather.

1. Descend Inside a Volcano

Explore Inside a Volcano (Þríhnúkagígur)

Imagine stepping into a dormant volcano- literally. Inside the Volcano is the only place in the world where you can descend into a magma chamber. The moment you step onto that lift and start lowering down 400 feet into the earth, it feels surreal. The walls glow with reds, oranges, and purples- remnants of ancient eruptions frozen in time.

Before the descent, there is about a 45 minute scenic hike across the lava field to reach base camp= a great warm-up and a chance to take in Iceland's rugged landscape. Once there, the team provides all the gear you need (helmets, harnesses, and safety equipment) and offers a hot bowl of soup afterwards- which hits the spot after the cool underground temps. There are also restrooms at base camp you can use before heading down.

Venture Seeker Tip: Wear sturdy hiking shoes and warm layers- the temperature drops significantly once you are inside.

2. Snorkel (or Scuba Dive) between Two Continents- Silfra Fissue

This one still gives us chills- both literally and figuratively. At Silfra, you are swimming between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in the clearest water on Earth. Visibility can reach over 100 meters, and the water is so pure you can drink it as you float.

We went with Arctic Adventures Silfra Fissure and the experience was unlike anything we've ever done. Don't let the dry suit intimidate you- their team walks you through every step The moment you dip your face in and see that endless blue crack between the continents, you'll understand why it's Venture Seeker Approved.

Venture Seeker Tip: Try to book an early morning slot for fewer crowds and glass-calm water. Bring your waterproof camera or let the guides take the photos-you will scan a QR code at the end of the tour to access your included photos.

3. Viking Dinner & Horseback Riding with Mr. Iceland

Mr Iceland - horseback riding tours

Adventure meets culture here- and that's why we loved it. Mr. Iceland brings the Viking spirit to life through storytelling, food, and, of course, the incredible Icelandic horses. We spent the evening riding across lava fields before gathering inside for an authentic Viking feast complete with laughter, history, and community.

We also stayed overnight in Jakob's concrete home on this property- an out-of-this-world stay where you wake up to Icelandic horses grazing just outside your window. It's an experience that feels like you're part of something bigger- something timeless.

This one tops the list for adrenaline. Running off a mountainside and soaring over Vik's black sand beaches is pure freedom. The viewed of the coastline and Reynisdrangar sea stacks below are unbelievable- and the peace you feel while flying? Unreal.

We went with True Adventure Iceland and can't recommend them enough Whether you're a first-timer or an adrenaline junkie, their team makes you feel completely at ease.

5. Glacier Hiking, Ice Caving & Ziplining

If there's one adventure that defines Iceland's wild beauty, it's this. Picture hiking across brilliant blue ice, stepping into glassy ice caves, and even ziplining over a glacier. That's the magic of Explore Ice Caves & Zipline

Their tours run from Vik and Jökulsárlón and include glacier hiking, ice climbing, and cave exploration- all left by highly trained guides. Every season brings something new: frozen sapphire caves in winter and dynamic, sculpted formations in summer.

Venture Seeker Tip: Dress in warm base layers, wear waterproof outwear, and bring your camera (or don't as their guides take amazing photos as well). The textures and colors of the ice are unreal.
