Cap Jaune isn’t just a place — it’s a feeling.

The hike begins just outside Vincendo, and it’s a short one — less than 30 minutes each way — but every step pulls you deeper into the lush, generous heart of La Réunion’s south. On the way to the coast, the trail winds through banana plantations, their broad green leaves waving in the breeze like jungle flags.

As a lifelong fan of tropical fruit, I was completely enchanted. Not just by the plants themselves, but by what they represent: abundance, labor, life. Seeing bananas grow in such vibrant, living rows — and knowing the work that goes into tending them — made me slow down and take it all in.

Then you reach the coast… and everything changes.

The forest opens to reveal the yellow cliffs of Cap Jaune, a surreal stretch of volcanic coastline painted in ochre, gold, and rust. The colors blaze especially bright in the late sun, set against the deep blue sea. It’s unlike any other part of the island.

👉 Insider Tip: The trail can be muddy and slippery after rain — wear good walking shoes.
👉 Hidden Gem: If you walk a bit beyond the cliffs toward the sea, you’ll often find rocky tide pools and fishermen quietly casting lines off the point.
