Tucked away in the serene stretches of East Khasi Hills, Pdem Waterfalls is one of Meghalaya’s lesser-known natural treasures, a peaceful escape that blends scenic beauty with a refreshing dose of quiet adventure. Often missed by mainstream travelers, this hidden gem is perfect for those who love raw, unspoiled landscapes.

How to Get There

Pdem Waterfalls is located in the Pdem area of East Khasi Hills, not far from Shillong. It’s best accessed via car or bike, and you’ll need local guidance or Google Maps to help navigate the last stretch, which may involve rough roads or short walks through forested terrain. The closest main town is Laitlyngkot, and from there it’s around 30–45 minutes by vehicle depending on the route and condition of the road. Signage is limited, so asking locals or hiring a guide is a smart choice.

What to Expect

  • A small, multi-level waterfall flowing gently into rocky pools

  • Clean water ideal for dipping your feet or a light splash

  • Surrounding pine forest and natural greenery

  • Very little to no crowd, even on weekends

  • No commercial stalls or major infrastructure, so it’s completely raw

The approach trail may be slightly steep or muddy, especially during or after the monsoon. Wear good shoes and bring your own food and water.

For the Curious

If you enjoy places that are peaceful and unfiltered by tourism, Pdem is perfect. The region is culturally rich, and nearby villages offer glimpses into Khasi life. You won’t find grand viewpoints or signs here—just the pure connection between water, forest, and stone.
