Bo-Kaap, nestled at the foot of Signal Hill in Cape Town, is a vibrant and historically rich neighbourhood bursting with colourful houses and cultural diversity. Originally known as the Malay Quarter, Bo-Kaap's roots date back to the 1760s when it was home to Cape Malays brought from various regions. The iconic multi-coloured houses, a mix of Cape Dutch and Georgian architecture, stand as a symbol of freedom and heritage for the predominantly Muslim community that has called Bo-Kaap home for generations. Make sure to book a Cape Malay cooking class for an authentic South African experience! We would also suggest not to go after sunset as it’s safer in the day :)
