If you want to do some sledding with a view, head up the Zugspitze, Eckbauerbahn, or the Wankbahn (only during Christmas holidays)!

If you don’t want to buy a ticket to use the cable cars, you can also find sledding hills at the Olympic ski jump or at the bottom of Alpspitz and Kruezeck or in Grainau.

Sleds are free on the Zugspitze in the summer, and on the top of Wank. Just trade an ID for a sled!

Just be careful not to sled in the middle of the ski run, or you’re likely to collide with a skier.

Giant Horn Sled Race

On January 6, there is a giant horn sled race down a path near the Partnachklamm. It’s a very entertaining with huge sleds, costumes, and big crashes!

Night Sledding

One of the most popular things to do in the area in winter is night sledding in Ehrwald, Austria at the Ehrwalder Almbahn. This is not gentle sledding, this is adrenaline pumping, steep sledding down the ski run.

I would be wary of taking a child under the age of 6. Older kids and thrill seekers are sure to love it though!

Pair it with fondue dinner at the Tiroler Haus at the top of the cable car. Normally night sledding takes place every Friday night, but make sure you check the website for dates.

Bring headlamps and glow sticks. The trail is not lit! Headlamps help you see where you’re going and glow sticks help you see your kids!
