Why Visit
Komani Lake is one of northern Albania’s most scenic spots, known for its calm blue water and steep mountainsides. The ferry ride through the lake is a relaxing way to take in the landscape and is often included as part of the popular Valbona–Theth hike. But even if you’re not hiking, it’s worth visiting on its own, especially as a day trip from Shkoder. In addition, there are some guesthouses along the lake that can be great options for a peaceful overnight stay.
The Ferry Ride
The ferry from Fierze to Koman takes about 2 hours and follows a quiet, winding route through narrow gorges and rural villages. It’s a simple ride, but the views are beautiful the whole way.
You can sit on the top deck to take photos or stay in the shaded lower area and enjoy the breeze. The main ferry is the most common option, but there are also smaller boats if you’re looking for a more private experience.
When to Go
As of now, the ferry runs daily from April to October, with one trip in each direction per day:
Koman to Fierze: around 9:00 AM
Fierze to Koman: around 1:00 PM
These times can vary a bit by season, so it’s best to check the official website for the latest schedule.
How to Book
You can book your tickets at komanilakeferry.com
If you’re doing the Valbona–Theth hike, there are also combo tickets available that include:
A shuttle from Valbona to Fierze
The Komani Lake ferry
A return shuttle to Shkoder
Most of these services offer pickup from your guesthouse, which makes things easier if you don’t have your own car.
Tips Before You Go
It’s a good idea to book in advance, especially in summer.
Bring water and sunscreen for the ride.
The lake is calm and scenic, but it’s also a basic transport route, so don’t expect a formal tour. The ferry ride can get a bit crowded depending on the time of the season.
