Nestled at the southern tip of Lake Wānaka in the Otago region, That Wānaka Tree stands as a testament to nature's resilience and beauty. This solitary willow has become an iconic symbol of the area, captivating photographers and visitors from around the world. While the tree's beauty is undeniable, it's essential to approach it with respect. Climbing the tree can cause damage, and efforts have been made to discourage this behaviour. In March 2020, the tree was vandalized when several limbs were sawed off. Such actions highlight the need for responsible tourism and the importance of preserving natural landmarks for future generations.
