Description:
Lake Mývatn, in North Iceland, is a volcanic area filled with unique landscapes. The lake is surrounded by pseudocraters, lava fields, and geothermal hot springs. Popular stops include the Mývatn Nature Baths (a smaller, quieter version of the Blue Lagoon), Hverir geothermal area with bubbling mud pots, and Dimmuborgir lava formations, which look like a natural fortress. In winter, this region is excellent for Northern Lights viewing because of its long, dark nights. Mývatn is less crowded than the south coast, making it a great stop for travelers who want to explore Iceland’s wild side.

Price:
Visiting the lake and many surrounding sites is free. Entry to the Mývatn Nature Baths costs about 5,900 ISK ($42 USD) per adult. Guided tours (lava caves, geothermal areas, or Northern Lights trips) typically start at $70–120 USD per person.
