Discover the Magic of Western Norway in 5-7 Days!
Dreaming of exploring Norway’s most iconic landmarks and hidden gems? This ultimate road trip guide takes you on an unforgettable journey through majestic fjords, dramatic mountains, charming villages, and breathtaking natural wonders. With carefully selected stops, insider tips, and a (in my opinion) perfectly balanced itinerary, this guide has everything you need to create memories that will last a lifetime. All you need is a car – I’ve planned the rest for you.

You can do this route in every season, but in the winter some of the hikes might be covered with snow and some waterfall frozen. Therefor I recommend Mai to Okt.

Day 1

Bergen Harbor

Historic trading port charm

Visiting "Bryggen", the old port of Bergen feels like traveling back in time. It is a unique sight that reminds visitors of its importance in the past as part of the Hansaeatic League’s trading empire. Taking it’s name from the many wooden buildings made by German merchants, the charming little waterfront is home to many interesting shops and restaurants, along with stunning works of art from the time. The site also contains many reminders of the fires over the years, like the remains of a few of the most popular ancient wooden architecture. Today, 62 beautiful buildings remain - making it an unmissable experience for all who come to visit!

2

Kossdalssvingene

Randonnée

Stunning hike for all

The Kossdalssvingene hike on Osterøy, Norway is a great experience for hikers of all levels. The hike up the 17 hairpin bends offers stunning views and plenty of fresh air while you ascend the 175 meters. From Mjøsvågen Landhandleri in Hosanger, the entire trip should take about 2 hours. This relatively easy hike is suitable for everyone, including families with children. Those feeling extra active can rent a bike at the start of the walk and experience the twists and turns like a Tour de France rider. With the perfect backdrop for photos, this hike is something to truly be enjoyed!

3

Hesjedalsfossen

Spectacular Norwegian waterfall

Hesjedalsfossen is a spectacular waterfall located in Norway. Fed by the giant Hesjedalselvi River, this thrilling natural attraction drops 250 meters down the cliff face into a stunning ravine. With a breathtaking view that towers over and draws onlookers from far away, it makes for an incredible adventure. Visitors can get up close to the raging cascade of water or hike the nearby trails for a more immersive experience. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful outdoor excursion or a wild ride along the river rapids, Hesjedalsfossen has it all!

4

Bordalsgjelet Gorge

Touristique

Stunning Norwegian wilderness experience

Bordalsgjelet is one of my favorite natural attractions in Norway. Located near the center of Voss, Norway. It offers an unforgettable wilderness experience with its deep and dramatic gorge, designed for public use with an information board, vantage point, and benches. On top of that, it provides an amazing view of potholes carved by the river over the course of thousands of years. A perfect opportunity to take in the breathtaking Norwegian scenery, Bordalsgjelet Gorge is definitely worth a visit! (Further down the river you can also find a nice bathing spot;)

5

Tvindefossen

Stunning Voss Falls Awe

Tvindefossen is a breathtaking waterfall located in Voss Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The two-tiered plunge is composed of a small Kroelvi stream which tumbles down over a receding cliff and stands approximately 116 metres (381 ft) high. This feeling of grandeur can often be captured for a moment when admiring it from the European route E16 road to Flåm. It is an incredibly popular tourist attraction that awes visitors with its beauty and even alludes to possess rejuvenating properties. Hundreds of thousands of people make sure to marvel at Tvindefossen every year.
