If you’re after a peaceful spot just outside of Wānaka, Glendhu Bay is a favourite of mine. The bay is sheltered and calm, which makes it the perfect place to take a paddleboard or kayak out — you’ll often have glassy conditions here in the mornings and evenings. In summer it’s a great swimming spot, and there’s a gentle lakeside track if you’d prefer a walk with mountain views.
Good to know:
There’s a car park right by the lake, and public toilets available.
The bay connects to the Millennium Track (Lakeside Trail), so you can walk or bike all the way back into Wānaka if you’re up for a longer adventure.
It’s a popular spot with campers in summer, but still way quieter than the main Wānaka lakefront.
Best time for calm water is early morning or late evening — perfect for paddleboarding.
Enjoy!! 🏔️
