Mont Owl’s Head in the Fall 🍁

If you’re looking for breathtaking views, fiery foliage, and a true Eastern Townships gem, Mont Owl’s Head should be at the top of your list this fall. Overlooking the vast Lac Memphrémagog, this mountain offers the perfect blend of challenging hikes, panoramic lookouts, and cozy après-hike options.

🥾 Hiking Trails to Explore

Mont Owl’s Head has a handful of trails that bring you right into the heart of the forest and up to sweeping vistas.

• Abénakis–Maçonnique Trail (approx. 2 km, intermediate)

A historic and steep path that climbs through the woods and leads you toward the summit.

• Panorama Loop (5.2 km loop, intermediate)

A must-do in the fall! This trail gives you the best views of Lac Memphrémagog framed by red, orange, and golden leaves.

• Chalet Route (3.2 km, moderate)

Perfect if you want something shorter, with options to combine with other trails for a longer outing.

🚡 Autumn Lift & Events

Every September, Owl’s Head hosts Autumnfest—a celebration of fall with local artisans, food, and activities. During this event, the chairlift runs to the summit, giving you the chance to enjoy the incredible views without the full climb. It’s a great option if you’re with kids or just want a more relaxed experience.

🏔️ Practical Info

• Summit elevation: ~747 m

• Vertical rise: ~540 m

• Trail access: Managed by Missisquoi Nord; generally free.

• Season: Open from May through the end of October, sunrise to sunset.

• Lodging: Stay right at the base at MTN Haus for suites with lake and mountain views.

🌟 Why Visit in the Fall?

Mont Owl’s Head is at its most spectacular in October, when the maples are blazing red and the crisp air makes the views even sharper. From the summit, you’ll see not only Lac Memphrémagog but also surrounding peaks in Quebec and Vermont. Combine your hike with a lakeside stroll or a visit to nearby Mansonville for a cozy café break.

Whether you hike up or take the lift, Mont Owl’s Head in autumn is an unforgettable way to soak in the beauty of the Eastern Townships.
