Here is one for the architecture and design enthusiasts!

There is nothing quite like this special collection of tree houses designed by one of Japan's most famous architects Terunobu Fujimori. While I knew this was in the area for a while, I didn't prioritise a visit. When I finally went I was glad that I did. I ended up spending much more time here than I first anticipated taking photos and videos of the designs.

Yes, DESIGNS - there is more than just one!

Terunobu Fujimori's "Flying Mud Boat" is a whimsical and surreal traveling tea house installation that resembles an acorn blown up to human scale. Suspended on tension cables over natural wooden posts, this unique structure features a shingle roof, yellow-painted mud plaster exterior, and circular windows for ventilation. With a cozy interior complete with a small stove and cedar planks, the design showcases Fujimori's use of organic materials and playful architectural style. Perfect for a few people to enjoy a cup of tea in a fantastical setting, the "Flying Mud Boat" is a quirky and charming addition to Fujimori's portfolio.

You can actually arrange tea and snacks if you plan in advance. This is only available in limited times in the year so you will need to research carefully in advance. Even without a booking, it's possible to visit and walk around the area freely to see all the buildings!
