The Giardino degli Aranci, or Orange Garden, is located on Rome’s Aventine Hill and offers visitors a breathtaking view of the city. The 7,800 square meter garden was designed in 1932 by Raffaele De Vico and is visited by many tourists for its vibrant orange groves and stunning panoramic scenes. It was originally constructed as a fortress built near Santa Sabina's basilica by the Savelli family between 1285 and 1287 and, according to legend, it was given its first orange tree seed by Saint Dominic who transported it from Spain. In the modern day, the garden is bordered by a wall once surrounding the castle and contains much of the original ruins, including a fountain that used to adorn Rome's Campo Vaccino during the 16th century and the sign commemorating Fiorenzo Fiorentini. There are also several interesting stories related to this special place that make it an even more interesting destination for those with an eye for history!
