Flateyjardalsheiði, also known as Flateyjardalur, is a beautiful valley in the northeast of Iceland. Stretching about 30 km from Fnjóskadal to the sea, this area offers stunning landscapes with lush grasslands and great fishing spots in the rivers. The valley was once home to several farms, but most of them were abandoned between 1935 and 1953.

Note : 4x4 required, preferably land cruiser or bigger (check with your rental company if you're allowed to take the car here). There's a bigger but quite easy river crossing half way through the valley.
