Kid Friendly Road Trip
7 jours

What you'll do

This 7 day itinerary is perfect for those traveling with kids. This itinerary is great for any age but suited for those traveling with kids ages 2+. Some days may involve activities that are seasonal and have age limits, so please be sure to check the notes of each day because I suggest alternatives!

Included in this itinerary is the Blue Lagoon, Hot Springs, Waterfalls, Glaciers, + Caves. Hotel, and restaurant recommendations included. Be sure to ask for a family room when you are booking.

Day 1

Today you're arriving in Iceland, I suggest picking up a car from Blue Car Rental, located right at the airport and heading straight to the Blue Lagoon. It's located only 20 minutes from the airport. There is a cafe inside if you need a snack before heading in the pool. Water wings are provided for smaller kiddos. Be sure to book your time sloot WELL ahead of time as they send to sell out

After enjoying your time here, head to Reykjavik. If you need to kill some time before you check into your hotel, I suggest grabbing a bagel and donut from Deig and walking around the pond to feed the ducks. (they aren't mean here, they're very nice)

If you're looking for something to do before or after dinner I recommend the lava show, located minutes from downtown.

Dinner recommendations: Flately, Lamb Street Food, Grandi Food Hall, Le Kock

Blue Car Rental

Car_Rental

Most Reliable Car Rental

This Car Rental is my most trusted rental company in Iceland. They are a family run business with great cars, great prices, awesome service and they're right at the airport so there is no hassle when checking in or out. There is also a location in Reykjavik if for some reason you are not arriving through Keflavik Airport. The link below has a 5% discount applied to it. No code needed :)

A rental car shuttle bus comes to the arrivals door every 15-20 minutes and this Car Rental is the second stop. It's only a 3 minute walk but I'm sure you won't want to walk with all your luggage.

If you're coming in the summertime and plan to go into the highlands or drive on the mountain roads (F-roads) you MUST have a 4x4. If you plan to just stay around the ring road then a regular 2x2 car is all you'll need.

If you're coming in the winter time you might feel more comfortable in a 4x4 but Iceland does a very good job of clearing and salting the roads so you will also be okay in a regular car. It is all your personal preference.

All cars come equipped with winter tires from the months of Oct-April so you'll be just fine. That means there are little spikes in the tires to help you grip the road better if it is icey. They are a lifesaver!

Blue Lagoon

The 8th wonder of the world

Please note the Blue Lagoon can close unexpedly due to ongoing volcanic activity.

A MUST see. Some people call it the 8th wonder of the world. You will be required to shower before you go into the lagoon. In Iceland full nudity is normal in the showers of swimming pools so just keep that in mind. If you want to shower in your bathing suit that is fine too. I strongly advise you to not let your hair get wet in the blue lagoon because it really dries it out for days!! There is also a little cafe inside so you can grab sandwiches or snacks after the lagoon. Be sure to buy your tickets in advance as it usually sells out. Great spot to visit first thing after you land from the airport or on your way to the airport at the end of your trip.

In my opinion you wouldn't ever regret your visit to the Blue Lagoon but if you went to Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon, you'd probably end up liking Sky Lagoon more.

Lava Show

Experience Real Live Lava

Awesome Activity for the whole family! If you can't experience real lava from a volcano while you're in Iceland this is the next best thing. It's the only place in Iceland you can experience real lava. This would be perfect for kids of all ages or for a bad weather day.
