Step into a real-life fairytale at Fisherman's Bastion, perched atop Castle Hill. Its seven gleaming white turrets and sweeping staircases offer some of the most breathtaking panoramic views you'll find of the Danube River and the magnificent Parliament building. While the lower terraces are free to wander 24/7, a small fee grants you access to the upper towers. It's not an ancient fortress but was built as a viewing terrace, and getting here involves a pleasant walk with some stairs, but the romantic atmosphere and incredible photo opportunities are more than worth it.
Honest tip:
The main terrace offers spectacular views for free, so paying for the upper lookout platforms (€3) is usually not worth it. The free areas are more than enough to enjoy the panorama, and it’s one of the best spots in Budapest for sunrise, when the city is quiet and bathed in golden light.
