Get ready for one of the most scenic spots on the Irish Loop! It's one of my favourite places on the loop due to its landscapes, wildlife, but also thanks to the local fishermen I met here, that became good friends, and this is where I got my first capelin roll on a nearby beach! From the parking area (which is already scenic, as it overlooks the ocean from two sides), it's a lovely 25-minute walk along a gravel path to reach the historic Ferryland Lighthouse. You'll want to linger here, watching for whales and soaking in the incredible ocean views. The road to the parking area is narrow and tricky to pass if there are cars from both sides, but it's manageable. Otherwise, park your car before the hill, and walk some extra 200m (the views while walking are excellent, so it's worth it).
Another spot worth visiting - a centre dedicated to the Colony of Avalon. Established in 1621 by Sir George Calvert (the First Lord Baltimore), it is widely recognized as the best preserved early English colonial site in North America.
