Toilet Tips in Venice
Where to Go When You Need to Go đ»
Marco Secchi
Venice, Italy
Letâs face it â Venice is stunning, but when nature calls, the options can be⊠elusive. Public toilets are few and often far between, and most bars or restaurants expect you to be a paying customer. Here's how to survive Venice without spending your entire day searching for a loo (or an espresso you didnât really want):
đœ Public Toilets
Venice has several official âWC pubblicoâ facilities. Theyâre not free, usually around âŹ1.50, but they're clean and maintained. Look for signs or maps â or use this shortcut:
đșïž Search âWC automaticaâ or âToilette Pubbliche Veneziaâ on Google Maps.
Main locations:
Piazzale Roma (Bus terminal)
Accademia (Dorsoduro side)
Campo San Bortolo (near Rialto)
Giardini (Castello area)
Tronchetto Parking
Train Station (Santa Lucia)
đĄ Tip: Some have card payment or turnstiles â have coins or a contactless card ready.
â CafĂ©s & Bars
You can use the bathroom in bars and restaurants, but order something â even just an espresso. Itâs the polite thing to do, and in many places, theyâll hand you a key or a code.
â Local-friendly spots that usually donât mind if you pop in for a quick coffee:
Bar Al Teatro (Campo San Fantin)
Torrefazione Cannaregio (great coffee and a back toilet)
Rosa Salva cafés (multiple locations)
đïž Museums, Department Stores & Hidden Gems
Sometimes the best toilet breaks are hiding in plain sight:
Museums (with ticket): Peggy Guggenheim, Correr Museum, Punta della Dogana, etc.
Large bookshops or cultural centres may have toilets (but no guarantee).
đ§ General Advice
Donât wait until itâs urgent â finding a toilet in Venice can take 15â20 minutes.
Carry tissues â some places may be out of paper.
Stay hydrated, but plan ahead. You know the deal.
