Rio Sagrado is one of the most peaceful luxury stays in Peru’s Sacred Valley. Set along the Urubamba River, it feels tucked away in its own private valley — lush gardens, hummingbirds, mountain views, and zero chaos.
This is where I recommend families or couples stay to acclimate before heading to Machu Picchu. The elevation is lower than Cusco (around 9,000 ft vs. 11,000+ ft), which makes a noticeable difference those first few days.
Why I like it:
• Large suites and villas — ideal for families
• Beautiful heated pool and hot tub
• Excellent restaurant with farm-to-table ingredients
• Easy access to Ollantaytambo train station
• Full-service spa
• Calm, restorative energy after long travel days
It’s not walkable to a town — this is a destination retreat. Plan on arranged transfers or private drivers.
If you want Sacred Valley luxury without sacrificing comfort or service, this is one of the strongest options.
