Rising directly alongside the European route E10, between the towns of Svolvær and Kabelvåg, Tjeldbergtinden is considered the local mountain of both communities. From its distinctive summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of both towns, the coastline, and the surrounding mountains. This makes the hike a favorite for both locals and visitors alike, with many residents using the trail as a fitness path or a Sunday walk.
Starting point: Starting from Svolvær (E10), turn right at the ESSO gas station towards Osan, or if coming from Kabelvåg, turn left at the same intersection. Follow the side road until you see the Vågan Fire Station on the left, which marks the starting point of the hike to Tjeldbergtinden (Google Maps coordinates: 68.233184, 14.525517) Unfortunately, there are only a few parking spaces available here.
Route: The hike to Tjeldbergtinden starts just before the fire station, with a sign pointing to "Linken" confirming the correct route. The trail begins as a gentle walk along a gravel road through a small residential area, popular with locals for evening fitness walks. After passing a shooting range, you reach the "Linken" plateau at 105 meters, offering an impressive view of Svolvær from a lookout platform. For those looking for more, the trail continues steeply uphill through a forest, becoming more challenging and turning into a climb rather than a hike. Once past the tree line, you're rewarded with a stunning panoramic view, and after a brief rest, you can explore both peaks of Tjeldbergtinden. The eastern peak offers breathtaking views over the Lofoten coast and mainland, while the main peak, reached via a steep, rope-assisted path, provides a spectacular 360-degree panorama of Kabelvåg, Svolvær, and the rugged mountains of the Lofoten. This hike is a true showcase of Lofoten's finest landscapes.
