It was constructed by Thutmose I and Thutmose III, who added pylons, obelisks, and a small pillared hall to the temple. The temple is famous for its axial design, which became a standard for New Kingdom temples. Within the temple enclosure are various smaller shrines and temples, including one dedicated to Ptah.
