Takakkaw Falls is British Columbia's second-tallest waterfall. It really is a magnificent sight to see, as the huge stream of water bursts out from the top of a cliff and falls 254m to the ground. The river below it is glacial icy blue and very, very cold.

Located at the very end of the seasonally open Yoho Valley Road (usually mid June to mid October), the main Takakkaw Falls viewpoint is 230m from the parking lot on a wide, flat, paved path.

After the bridge, the path gets narrower and continues another 330m towards the base of the waterfall. Be very careful around the edge of the river - as mentioned, the water is very cold.

The Takakkaw Falls parking lot is usually pretty busy but since most people stay only 15-20 minutes, there is good turnover.

A Parks Canada parks pass is required to drive the Yoho Valley Road and visit Takakkaw Falls ($22/day for a vehicle of up to 7 people). The Yoho Valley Road is 13km long with no services, no phone signal and several very tight switchbacks. Trailers and large RVs not permitted.
