How to do Gili Trawangan RIGHT
Gili T Do's & Don'ts
Quisha Rose
Bali, Indonesia
DO’s
Book your fast boat in advance - avoids overpriced tickets at the pier and long waits.
Carry cash - most cafés, bars, and services are cash-only.
Walk or rent a bike - no cars on the island, so light packing is key.
Go early for sunrise & sunset - best photos and peaceful vibes.
Snorkel - bring your own mask if you can, the reefs are amazing.
Pro tip: Popular snorkeling tours from the main pier can get crowded. Walk further down the beach and you’ll find locals offering private tours, often cheaper and far less busy.
Split your stay - consider 1–2 nights in central Gili T for nightlife and 1–2 nights north/east for quiet beaches.
Try Gili Meno or Gili Air - even a day-trip is worth it for hidden beaches and a quieter vibe.
Horse riding (optional) — if you really want to ride, only go to a sanctuary. Most cidomos on the island are cruel to the horses.
DON’Ts
Don’t rely on ATMs - they’re limited and often empty. Bring extra cash.
Don’t pack heavy bags - you’ll have to walk from the boat dock to your villa.
Don’t ride the horse carts (cidomos) — they’re cruel to the animals; walk or cycle instead.
Don’t expect fast Wi-Fi everywhere - embrace island time.
Don’t drink the tap water - stick to bottled or filtered water.
