The SIM card mistake almost everyone makes
What SIM to get in Indonesia

The most common mistake? Buying the first SIM you see at the airport or from the wrong provider. It seems easy and convenient, but here’s the problem: some SIMs don’t have good coverage outside tourist areas, others are slow, and many have confusing data packages that end up costing more than they should.
Step 1 - Decide what you need
Are you just posting stories, checking maps, and sending messages? Or are you uploading reels and working online? Your data usage will determine which provider is worth it.
Step 2 - Choose your SIM type
Physical SIM: Telkomsel and XL are the most reliable across Bali. Strong 4G/LTE everywhere - Canggu, Uluwatu, even in remote spots. Avoid the “cheap” SIMs that locals sell at little kiosks; they often expire fast or don’t work outside city centres.
eSIM (Airalo): If your phone supports it, you can buy an Airalo Bali eSIM before you even leave home. Instant activation, no queues, and reliable coverage across the island. Perfect if you don’t want to deal with local stores.
Pro tip: Some villas, Airbnbs, and hotels provide Wi-Fi, but it’s rarely reliable for uploads or calls. A strong SIM (or eSIM) is your lifeline - don’t skip this step.
