About the island.

Koltur is a small island in the Faroe Islands, known for its picturesque landscapes and historic settlements. The name 'Koltur' means 'colt', reflecting its smaller size compared to neighboring islands. With just one settlement and a population of zero as of 2023, Koltur has a rich history dating back to the Viking age, with evidence of barley cultivation and well-preserved old buildings. Conservation efforts have been made to preserve the island's heritage, making it a unique destination for visitors interested in nature and history.

How to get to the island?

There are two ways to get on the island. The most common one is in the summer season and that is by rib boat which leaves from the port of Gamlarætt. The sailing trip is just 10 to 15 minutes long. You can stay there on the island for between 2 and 4 hours. There will be a guide on the island and explain about the history and so on. You can also see how they used to live back in the day. Book from the link and you get a 10% discount.

You can also go there by helicopter and it is accessible all year round. But it has to be planned with the people in charge of the island to stay there of course.
