Andermatt is an mountain village south of Lucerne that is becoming a luxury destination as accommodations and services have been recently infused with big investments.
The Andermatt-Sedrum-Disentis ski area connects three smaller ski resorts into over 100km of pistes. For a day trip, we prefer the Gemstock ski area, which is reached by a cable car near the Andermatt village (convenient parking next to the cable car). If you are staying longer, you'll enjoy exploring the many different parts of the resort for a variety of views and terrain.
Because of the high elevation, Gemstock is often one of the first Swiss resorts to open for the season, often on weekends in early November.
They have a family discount for 2 parents and at least one child. If you plan to visit often, it pays to buy their Half-Fare card, which gives you a 50% discount on your ski pass.
