Sort Your Vaccinations & Pack a Proper Kit
before you go
Lena and Chris
Lombok, Indonesia
See a travel clinic about 4–6 weeks before you fly. For Indonesia, commonly recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A and Typhoid (food and water), Tetanus, and often Hepatitis B and Rabies — the latter worth considering for longer or remote trips, and around the monkey forests where macaques bite. Note that unlike Bali, parts of Lombok carry a low malaria risk, and dengue is present year-round, so bite prevention matters: pack a strong repellent (DEET or picaridin). For your kit, bring oral rehydration salts and an anti-diarrheal for the inevitable "Bali belly," paracetamol/ibuprofen, antihistamines, and antiseptic plus plasters for coral cuts and scooter scrapes (they infect fast in the tropics). Add motion-sickness tablets for the boat crossings, ear drops if you're diving, and any personal medication with a copy of the prescription. Vaccination needs are individual — confirm yours with a travel doctor.
