Axlarfoss, or Axlafoss, is a peaceful little waterfall tucked away in Iceland’s Highlands, close to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. The Hólmsá river drops about 8 meters into a canyon, creating a super picturesque scene. To get there, you’ll need a 4x4 vehicle since it’s off the beaten path on F-roads. From Route 1 near Vík, take F208 for about 9 km, then turn onto F210 and drive another 24 km until you spot the sign for the waterfall. A short walk from the parking area brings you to a viewpoint where you can take in the views. It’s a bit remote, so there aren’t many facilities around, and it’s best to check road conditions beforehand, as the F-roads are only open in summer. It’s definitely worth the adventure if you’re up for it!
