Mirador Río de las Vueltas is a short and easy walk from El Chaltén that leads to a stunning viewpoint over the winding, turquoise-colored Río de las Vueltas. Fed by glacial meltwater, the river snakes through the wide Patagonian valley with the dramatic backdrop of surrounding peaks, creating a scene that feels both vast and serene. The viewpoint is especially rewarding given the minimal effort required to reach it, making it accessible for families and casual walkers. On clear days, the contrasts between the bright river, rugged mountains, and expansive skies make this spot a favorite for photography and drone shots.

Be careful when the spot is windy and don't get close to the edges!

  • Hiking time: ~ 30 minutes round trip

  • Difficulty: Easy

  • Age limit: No official limit — accessible to families and most age groups (though young children and older adults should pace themselves, especially in winds)

  • Seasonality: Best in the summer months (October to April); trail is generally accessible outside of heavy snow periods

  • Walking distance: ~ 1 km round trip

  • Elevation gain: Minimal / modest (small climb from trailhead to viewpoint)
