Maggie’s Peak is one of my favorite hikes in Lake Tahoe. It’s a solid workout, but the views at the top make it totally worth it. You get some of the best vantage points of Lake Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness.

The trail starts at the Bayview Trail at the back of Bayview Campground, right across from Inspiration Point on Highway 89. It’s roughly 5 miles round trip with about 1,800 feet of elevation gain. The trail is exposed and rocky near the top, so make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring 1–2 liters of water and sun protection. Parking fills up fast on weekends, so getting there early is a good idea.

The best time to do Maggie’s Peak is from June through October. I don’t recommend it in winter since snow and ice can make the hike dangerous.
