If you’re looking for, like, an epic activity to do in the Tahoe‑Truckee area, consider whitewater rafting, which is really popular around here. One tour company that I’ve gone out with a couple of times is Tributary, and I can definitely recommend them. They run trips on the Truckee River with everything from chill, family-friendly floats to splashy class II-III rapids, depending on the water levels, so there’s a good mix of fun without being too crazy. You’ll see cliffs and canyon scenery along the way, and depending on flow,s you can do the Boca run or the Verdi run. Trips run all summer from mid-May through the end of September.

They also run rafting trips on the American River, a bit further away, which are really fun too if you’re up for a little drive.
