For some of the best views overlooking Truckee, head to Donner Lake Overlook. To get there, follow Donner Pass Road—a narrow, winding mountain road with stunning vistas along the way. It gets very snowy in the winter, so be sure to check conditions before you go, and keep in mind that the road often closes during storms. Once you reach the overlook, you’ll find designated parking and a viewing area with gorgeous views of Donner Lake and the Sierra Nevada mountains. This spot is also home to Rainbow Bridge (also known as Donner Summit Bridge), a restored arch bridge originally built in the 1920s and one of the most photographed landmarks in the area.
