Who doesn’t love a super short hike with a great view? Cave Rock is an easy 0.8-mile hike that takes under 15 minutes to reach the viewpoint. It sits right above the rock tunnel on Highway 50 (I’ve actually driven through that tunnel many times without even realizing the trail was right above it!).

What makes Cave Rock extra special is its history and geology. It’s the remnant of an ancient volcanic vent, formed millions of years ago.

From the parking area, it takes about 12 minutes to reach the base of Cave Rock. You can enjoy the views from the base or take the short scramble to the top for stunning 360-degree views of Lake Tahoe.

Tip: Cave Rock is a great spot to catch the sunset, and hiking boots are a good idea if you plan to scramble to the top.
