For a truly memorable taste of the North Georgia mountains, make your way to Preacher's Rock. This popular spot offers one of the best reward-to-effort ratios around, with a stunning payoff for a relatively short hike. The trail itself is part of the famous Appalachian Trail, starting from the Woody Gap parking area. You'll find the first half of the roughly one-mile journey to the top to be a gentle warm-up before the trail climbs more steeply with stone steps and switchbacks for the final stretch, a climb that takes most folks about 45 to 60 minutes. Once you emerge onto the expansive granite outcrop, you're treated to breathtaking, wide-open views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, making it an especially magical place to watch the sunrise.
