Tuoro, or Black Rock Beach, anchors the western edge of Rarotonga, where jagged black volcanic basalt contrast sharply with the white sand and incoming tide. In Cook Islands tradition, this rugged outcrop is known as the lifting-off place for spirits departing for the ancestral homeland. There is a distinct, grounding energy to this spot, especially when the swells crash against the dark stone walls.

The area is incredibly accessible, located just off the main coastal road with a short path leading onto the rocks. It is a fantastic spot for a late afternoon swim in the natural rock pools or for finding a quiet perch to watch the day end.

This is the premier location on the island for sunsets.
