If you're planning to visit Tre Cime this summer, keep in mind that things have changed. Starting in 2025, you can’t just drive up anymore whenever you feel like it. You now need to reserve your spot online in advance, even if you’re going up for sunrise.

Driving up? Book ahead.
The toll road that takes you all the way to Rifugio Auronzo now requires an online reservation. It’s about 30 to 45 euros depending on your vehicle, and yes, they will check your plate at the gate. You can book directly through the tourism website auronzo.info. Once you're up there, you're basically at the trailhead already which is super convenient if you're short on time or just want an easier day.

No car? No problem.
There’s also a shuttle bus option. From 31 May to 12 October 2025, the 444 shuttle runs between Dobbiaco and Rifugio Auronzo. It’s a good alternative to the toll road, especially if you want to skip the hassle of driving and parking. You’ll need to book it online ahead of time.

Want to hike it?
You can also hike up from Lago Antorno. It’s a good uphill walk and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. The parking down there is free but fills up really fast, especially in high season.

What I recommend (for the best photos as well)
If you can, go as early as possible even for sunrise! I’ve done it a countless times and it’s always worth the early start. The light on the peaks is just unreal. Just make sure your parking the night before so you don’t end up stuck at the bottom of the mountain when it’s still dark out.
