The Higashi Chaya District in Kanazawa is one of the largest and most atmospheric geisha districts in Japan, and it’s an absolute gem to visit. It's really special being able to visit the beautifully restored teahouses and taverns that take you straight into Japan’s past. We especially loved seeing it at night when the district comes alive with all the pretty little lanterns lit up. While you’re here, don’t miss trying the gold leaf ice cream, it’s a pretty cool and delicious treat! If you’re lucky, you might even spot a Geisha (or Geiko), but remember to be respectful. Never chase them down for photos, and be mindful of the streets that are off-limits to tourists. Otherwise, head straight here on your Kanazawa trip and enjoy!
