Craving sun-soaked beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a chilled-out island vibe? Okinawa is where you want to be.

It feels like a whole different side of Japan, tropical, relaxed, and rich with unique culture and history. Perfect for escaping the city buzz and soaking up some serious sunshine.

Getting there is pretty straightforward: you can fly direct from Tokyo’s Haneda or Narita airports, and it takes about 3 hours. It’s a bit of a trip, but absolutely worth it.

While you’re in Okinawa, don’t miss exploring the Blue Cave as well as must-see islands nearby, including Miyako Island, Ishigaki Island and Kerama Islands, a group of smaller islands that are perfect for diving and spotting sea turtles.

Things to know:

  • Flights from Tokyo to Naha Airport take about 3 hours

Must-see islands:

  • Miyako Island: gorgeous beaches and snorkeling heaven

  • Ishigaki Island: hiking trails and vibrant coral reefs

  • Kerama Islands: perfect for diving and sea turtle spotting

Top tip: Once in Okinawa, renting a car is the best way to explore the main island and nearby islands. We booked through Klook and found it super affordable. Use our discoount code for 10% off: KLOOKGABTK
